Five days and counting! The race is on to find that special gift for your loved one. Perhaps you are one of those people who have spent weeks, or even months, planning the most romantic, over the top, rose petal and candle lit night, or maybe you are like most people who will rush out this Friday night to buy a few boxes of chocolate and a bouquet of roses just in time for Saturday-either way, money will be spent. Life of DIY is certainly not about being stingy when it comes to creating spaces life’s memorable moments, but we are about being wise with how that money is spent and making sure that every dollar spent along the way is really worth the investment.
I was shocked when I read CNN’s report Valentine’s Day, by the numbers in which it was quoted that on average a person will spend $130.97 on this one day. To me that seems high, but I suppose I can let that slide because if you have the means to spend some bucks on this one day then great, but what took my breath away in this report is that as a society we are gearing up to spend $1.6 billion on candy. Really, candy? Don’t you agree there could be a gift a bit more sentimental than a box of chocolates? I did a little digging for some of the coolest DIY gifts (and non-DIY) that would make the perfect gift for Valentine’s day, without breaking the bank!
Home Is Where the Heart Is
String art is popping up all over the internet these days and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Take some time to create a cool piece of art that in the end you both get to enjoy! Combine your two home states, or perhaps just the one you share- either way it is a DIY masterpiece that can be found on Sugar Bee Crafts.
This is the coolest company I have come across recently and it is definitely a win-win for your Valentine’s shopping. ReFleece has done the recycling, designing and creating for you-all you have to do is buy a very attractive, cozy, and sustainable product for your honey. Better yet, it won’t cost you nearly as much as the $130 average reported by CNN. I certainly would not mind one of their small zip-it bags, how cute!
Elise at Grow Creative has put out the easiest, step by step guide on transferring an image you have into an amazing watercolor image. Take a favorite photo of you and your lovebird or even a snapshot of your favorite vacation spot and give it a try.
Whatever you have planned for this Saturday, don’t let the money be the thing that stresses you out! Be thoughtful, be kind, and make it all about the two of you and not the cash…and certainly not the candy!
